MINEHEAD AFC Under 10s took part in an ESF tournament at Butlin's, and finished a splendid second. ESF 2024 is a series of professionally organised youth football festivals.

Minehead played three games on the Saturday starting with a 1-0 win against St Joesphs Colts from Swansea. Next they put in a great performance against Devon side Chaddlewood Miners, winning 5-0.

The last game saw them face Cacade YC FC from Wales, who like Minehead, had won their opening two games. Minehead again played well and led 2-0 at the break, the keeping Cascade at arm’s length in the second half to claim victory 2-0, to end joint top of their group.  Sunday consisted of two more games the first of which was against Dropship from Cornwall.

After a goalless first half, the home team conceded a goal against the run of play which turned out to be the ‘moment of the tournament’ and then leaked another late on before losing 2-0. The last game saw Minehead play Kewford Eagles from Dudley in the West Midlands who had won all of their previous four games. However, despite playing well, they went down 2-0.

Former England star players Sue Smith and Paul Merson presented the awards.
